When you read the facts as written by Senior Judge Michael in
U.S. v. Gillespie, you get the impression that law enforcement had a pretty good idea what they would find inside the apartment (where the people had just run out the backdoor into the snow), but their plan to get inside (they heard a baby crying somewhere) was kind of lame. They went into the apartment anyhow, and found no babies but did find scales and baking soda and guns and cocaine.
